| Your
Genes, Your Choices
Written
for a lay audience, Your Genes, Your Choices, provides accurate
information about the Human Genome Project and genetic research
in an easy-to-read and understand style and format. Each chapter
in the book begins with a brief vignette, which introduces an issue
within a human story, and raises a question for the reader to think
about as the basic science and information are presented in the
rest of the chapter. Now in its second edition, Your Genes, Your
Choices has been widely disseminated in print and online. It has
also been translated into several other languages, including Spanish
and Icelandic.

Science
in the Media
For nearly 30 years, the Mass Media Science and Engineering Fellowship
Program places advanced undergraduate and graduate students with
newspaper, television, and radio stations for a 10-week summer experience.
In doing so, the program increases coverage of science-related issues
in the media and enhances the skills of the students in communicating
complex scientific information to the public. Mass Program alumni
include Eric Lander, one of the principal leaders of the Human Genome
Project and director of the Whitehead Institute's Center for Genome
Research.
